Obligatory Duties of Hajj
Hajj, the fifth pillar of Islam, entails several obligatory duties that every able-bodied and financially capable Muslim must fulfill at least once in their lifetime. The first and foremost obligation is the Ihram, the sacred state of ritual purity marked by specific attire and intentions as pilgrims enter the holy precincts. The Tawaf, circumambulation around the Kaaba, symbolizes the unity of Muslims and their submission to Allah. Following this, pilgrims proceed to perform Sa'i, walking seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwa, commemorating Hajar's search for water. On the 8th of Dhul Hijjah, pilgrims gather at the plains of Arafat, standing in fervent supplication and reflection, a crucial element known as Wuquf. The symbolic act of pelting stones at the pillars in Mina represents defiance against Satan's temptations. Lastly, the cutting or shaving of hair, known as Halq or Taqsir, marks the completion of Hajj rituals. These obligatory duties of Hajj serve as profound rites of passage, fostering spiritual growth, unity, and humility among the global Muslim community.
